Homeschooling Network:
This is neglect?
I’m not going to pretend to know both sides of the story here, but here’s the way the article outlines it…
1) Kids are/feel harassed at school
2) Mom complains to school but gets nowhere
3) Harassment escalates to the point where mom feels children are physically threatened
4) Mom pulls kids from school to homeschool
5) School says mom can’t adequately teach and files a complaint of educational neglect.
Now, maybe there’s something else happening here, but I have a hard time seeing this as anything close to educational neglect. Wasn’t she neglecting her children more when she kept them in school despite frequent bullying?

You’ve made a very good point. Why is this mother being harassed for protecting her children? That is our obligation as parents.

I cannot find the reference at the moment, but wasn’t she only homeschooling for less than a week when the accusation of educational neglect was thrown in?
How can you be guilty of educational neglect in that amount of time?

WND noted that the complaint was made three days after she took them out of school. Those must have been three very important days.

Our son was bullied unmercilessly while the teacher stood and did nothing. Our son is autistic and would hide in the toy box or pull the file cabinet over on his desk to make a coccoon. The teacher did nothing. It is neglect to leave your kids there..

I agree, Sallie. It’s educational AND parental neglect to leave your child in a place where they’re too scared, confused, or harassed to learn. Removing them from that environment is the exact opposite of neglect.
